  4. What is Does:
  5. Displays and speaks the time in a human-friendly format in a tiny, unobtrusive window which hugs the a side or corner of the screen.

  7. How you say Colloque:
  8. "Coll - lok" or "ker - lock" with the emphasis on the second syllable.
  9.  
  10. To use it:
  11. • Copy the application to your hard drive (I recommend you drop it in your 'Startup Items' folder in your System folder) and double-click to run.

  13. What it needs:
  14. • Mac System 7 or later on a 68020 processor or better.  (Might work on less.)

  19. To use it better:
  20. • Drag the window wherever you want it (or use the Position menu) and leave it there.  It always hugs the left or right side of the screen, depending on where you drag it to.  The position is remembered after you quit!
  21. • Play about with the other menu options and things for fun.
  22. • If you don’t want to use speech, then set the preferred memory size (in the program’s get info window) to about 32K.  Then it’ll use less memory and you won’t get it talking all the time.

  24. Hacker's Guide:
  25. I store all of the text in resources so Colloque can be easily modified/internationalised.  Just look in the Str# resources with ResEdit and hack around.  Please leave everything else alone and don't distribute your modified versions without at least trying to contact me.
  26. Window colours can be changed as well, but no longer can you change the position of the window — it's done automatically.  The text colour can't be changed either.  If someone asks, I'll make more hackable in the next version.

  29. What's so good about it:
  30. Disk space:        < 12K
  31. Working RAM:  < 32K (or about 276K if using Speech)
  32. It doesn't hog system resources (disk space, memory, screen space and processor time) and best of all: IT'S FREE!

  35. Colloque has a long way to go.  This is really just a trial version - better ones will be out, probably by the time you read this, so contact me at the addresses below.

  91.  -- it now resizes itself (makes it more localisation-friendly)

  96.  -- time updates more frequently (30 seconds not 1 minute) so time is more accurate
  97. — eventually, colloque hugs the bottom-right corner of the screen.  If this is a problem, I can make versions which hug other corners/areas, but I like it in the bottom-right.  Thanks to Apple’s Toolbox Assistant CD for helping me work this one out!
  98. — fixed a bug which made the system go berserk due to a line of code being out of place!

  104.  -- hacked version 4 to make it talk and quite liked it then forgot about doing a proper job. Unfortunately I lost my source to version 4 to a hard disk crash (yep, should have backed up I know!) so had to rework from version 3.  During holidays got round to adding the positioning features I knew I wanted and tidied stuff up.  Some cool hidden things now.
